people expect lifetime support on free softwares

Interesting fact. People tends to expect life-time support for free, or one-time-purchase softwares.

Examples

  • People gets mad when open-source projects like redis or docker changed to non-free license, even though they can still use the old versions without any problem.

  • People gets mad when a free-software is discontinued. (e.g. Arc Browser) Even though they can still use the old versions. It might break over time, but that's how other physical products work.

  • People pay money to fix the physical products they bought. But they expect free-update for software products.

This is quite interesting problem.
